Wonders of the Norwegian Winter

Steep mountains covered in snow and thundering waterfalls silently frozen in place; snowfall and ice turn Norway into a true winter wonderland. Traverse some of its most spectacular scenery in between visits to its two largest cities and one of its most charming villages.

Days 1 & 2: Oslo
Arrive in the capital of Norway via train from airport to city centre and check in to your hotel in the heart of Oslo. With an efficient network of public transport, there is convenient access to the city’s renowned museums, opera house, Akershus Fortress and Vigeland Sculpture Park.

Day 3: To Myrdal and onward to Flåm
Getting there is half the fun on day 3 of this itinerary. Embark on Bergensbanen bound for the end destination of Flåm, often rated one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. With a quick transfer in Myrdal to the historic Flåmsbana, you will be transported up snow-covered mountains, wind through numerous tunnels, and chug down steep, scenic grades.

Day 4: The Village of Flåm
Visit the Flåm Railway Museum to learn more about this iconic feat of engineering or go for a walk in the dramatic fjord landscape in which this hamlet is nestled. To take advantage of the unique seasonal opportunities winter provides, opt for one of our Tour Plus offerings.

Day 5: Flåm – Gudvangen – Voss – Bergen
The day starts with a true highlight — a sail by electric vessel through the majestic, UNESCO-heritage Nærøyfjord, one of the most dramatic fjord trips in Europe. Upon arrival in Gudvangen, take the opportunity to visit Viking Village Njardagheimr, a living city of Viking enthusiasts ready to share the history and culture of the Viking age. After a scenic bus ride on to Voss, te train to Bergen awaits.

Day 6: Bergen
Welcome to the Hanseatic capital of fjord Norway and the nation’s second largest city — Bergen. Explore Bryggen, one of its must-see neighbourhoods with its enchanting narrow alleyways and cosy shops tucked in behind colourful, picture-perfect wooden houses. Try the catch of the day at Bergen’s famed fish market, a meeting place for merchants and fishermen since the 1200’s. Or hop on the Fløibanen funicular, which lifts you up the mountainside to captivating views of city, sea and snow-covered peaks.

Day 7: Departure
Fly home from Bergen airport, easily reached from the city centre by airport express coach or light rail.

WINTER FUN IN GEILO
Add two nights to your stay with a stopover in Geilo on your way to Flåm. Known as a paradise for winter sports, Geilo offers a whole host of activities, including skiing, snowshoe trekking, dog sledding, and snowmobiling.

FJORD SAFARI, SAUNA & ÆGIR
From your home base of Flåm, get up close to the frigid fjord waters on a guided RIB boat tour, followed by a refreshing dip in the icy Aurlandsfjord. The Fjord Sauna is a welcome warmup, as is a pint at the local Ægir Bryggeri.
