Odense, the island’s largest city, offers cosy cobblestone streets and cultural highlights, while the romantic garden Sanderumgaard and the magical moated Egeskov Castle draw you out into the countryside.
Day 1: Middelfart
Arrive in Middelfart on Funen’s western point for 4 nights’ stay here.
Day 2: Excursion to Odense
Start the day in Odense with a sightseeing tour following in the footsteps of the world-famous storyteller H.C. Andersen. Enjoy a leisurely boat tour on the Odense River before visiting the 200-year-old romantic garden of Sanderumgaard for afternoon coffee and cake.
Day 3: Egeskov Castle & Chocolate Tasting
Egeskov is Europe’s best-preserved Renaissance water castle. Surrounded by an enchanting park, it also boasts two fantastic museums – the Vintage Museum and the Motorcycle Museum. Funen is also home to some of the best chocolate factories in Denmark, so experiencing the ‘chocolate route’ is a must for those with a sweet tooth.
Day 4: Excursion for Wine and Castle Lovers
It may be hard to believe, but wine is actually grown on Funen! Follow the ‘wine route’ and visit the cWinery with its old farmhouse and large wine barrels. The final tour destination is Valdemars Slot located on the island of Tåsinge and one of the most impressive castles on Funen.
Day 5: Middelfart/Departure
Bid farewell to Funen as you depart on your journey home.
