Day 1: Helsinki
Helsinki is a modern, culture-filled, vibrant city, where East meets West. You will visit some of the most beautiful sites here, such as the famous rock church “Tempelaukio Kirkko,” Senate Square with its cathedral and the Sibelius Monument. Overnight stay in Helsinki.
Day 2: Helsinki
Today offers more exciting cultural stops, as well as an adventure into Helsinki’s near-lying nature. Visit the dynamic ‘design district,’ take a tour of the open-air museum Seurasaari, or enjoy an excursion by boat to Suomenlinna, a sea fortress located on the outskirts of Helsinki Harbour. Day 3: Helsinki – Laapeenranta (250 km)
Travel along Finland’s southern coast and stop in the cosy, small town of Porvoo with its picturesque red wooden houses situated along the Porvoo River. Porvoo is the 2nd oldest city in Finland and has a rich history dating back to 13th century. Arrive in Lappeenranta at the base of Lake Saimaa – this town is the centre of the South Karelia region and the closest European city to the Russian border and St. Petersburg. Lappeenranta is also home to a 3-million-kilo sandcastle built every year and on display from June – September. Overnight stay in Lappeenranta.
Day 4: Laapeenranta – Kuopio (320 km)
Enjoy a 2-hour cruise on Lake Saimaa to start off the day. Continue to Savonlinna, known for its famous opera festival and Olavinlinna, the medieval island castle. Overnight stay in Kuopio.
Day 5: Kuopio – Tampere (295 km)
In the morning, visit the 75-metre-high Puijo Tower featuring panoramic views over the lakelands. Cruise on Kallavesi Lake before continuing to Tampere, Finland’s 3rd largest city. Tampere is known for its industrial heritage, quirky museums and stunning views. Overnight stay in Tampere.
Day 6: Tampere – Turku (220 km)
Visit the world-renowned glass blowing company, Iittala. After a guided tour, continue to Turku and its famous castle. Turku is also known as the gateway to the Finnish archipelago. Other interesting sights are the Forum Marinum Maritime Centre, the Aboa Vetus and the Turku Cathedral. Enjoy a stroll along the Aura River and wander through the medieval cobblestone streets. Overnight stay in Turku.
Day 7: Turku – Helsinki (165 km)
Today the tour returns to the capital city of Helsinki via the King’s Road, a historically valuable, ancient postal route that was first built in the Middle Ages when Finland was under the reign of Sweden. The route follows highways as well as small curvy roads between big cities and picturesque small towns. Scenery varies from rural to coastal, and rest stops abound at historic sites, marinas and cafés. Overnight stay in Helsinki.
